Almost Back to Back No Hitters

Category: Uncategorizedadmin @ 7:14 pm

Today we almost had a record setting game by the Chicago Cubs. Ted Lilly for the cub almost gave Chicago the first Back to Back No-Hitter in the Major leagues in almost 40 years. In September of 1968, no-hitters were thrown in back-to-back games during a series between two teams. On Sept. 17, Gaylord Perry of the Giants no-hit the Cardinals, 1-0, at Candlestick Park. On the following day, Ray Washburn duplicated the feat for the Cardinals with his 2-0 win over the Giants. This was the only recorded time that a team accomplished this feat.

no-hitter back
Yesterday, September 14th, Carlos Zambrano of the Chicago cubs threw a no-hitter against the Houston Astros in Milwaukee. Yes I sad Milwaukee. Due to Hurricane Ike the series was moved up north. Today also in Milwaukee and also against the Houston Astros,Pitcher Ted Lilly had a no hitter through six innings before Astros batter Mark Loretta’s seventh-inning single.

The Cubs sure are on fire, and despite not getting the would be amazing feat of back to back no-no’s they are well on their way to the playoffs. With over two weeks left in the season, they have all but clinched the NJ Central division. Interesting enough in 1969 The Astros and Reds through back to back no-hitters, but each team had one.
