It is incredible how unhealthy a can of soda really is. I would argue that drinking a can of beer is actually healthier, and it probably is. An average can of cola will have about 10-12 teaspoons of sugar alone. Not to mention the food coloring, and chemicals all thrown into it. If you take soda out of your diet completely, after averaging 3-4 cans a day, I am willing to bet you will lose a good portion of the excess weight you have.

Recent studies have shown that soda (particularly colas) is actually partially responsible for bone loss. The likely cause of Soda’s bone degenerating properties is what? Phosphoric acid, which is unique to colas, says Katherine Tucker, lead author of the study. When the body breaks down this compound, the acidity (or concentration of free hydrogen ions) of the blood increases. In order to neutralize the acidity, hydrogen ions bind with minerals, including calcium and magnesium. If they’re not available in the blood, says Tucker, “the body draws calcium from bones. Of course Calcium and Magnesium are two minerals that promote bone health. The lack of these minerals in the diet and bloodstream have been directly prove to decrease one’s bone density.
What do I personally recommend? Drink Water, or if you are a person who needs that flavorful beverage, go for unsweetened ice tea. If you need to sweeten it, then add 2-3 teaspoons of sugar, that beats the 10-12 in an average can of soda.
