For those Sons and Daughters out there….. well….. I guess we are all sons and daughters. For those sons and daughters out there who are lucky enough to have their fathers still around, Fathers day 2008 will be celebrated on Sunday June 15, one week from today.
Just making this blog post because I think a lot of people panicked when they woke up this morning thinking Fathers Day was today. Well rest assured you all have 1 week remaining before getting something special for the man responsible for you being here. Hopefully thats a good thing. Last year on Fathers day I completely forgot until the night before. I had to rush to the store in the morning before going over to my Fathers house. This year that mistake will NOT be made, at least not by me or anyone reading this blog.

I’m a big time lacrosse fan, and pretty much follow the sport religiously when I can. Anyway I just thought I’d write a little piece about the Lax Splash recreation lacrosse tournament.
Here is a tidbit of information about Lax Splash: It was created in 1999 as an end of year celebration for local and, not so local, recreation lacrosse teams. Over the years it has hosted more than 50,000 players and has served as Carroll Manor Recreation Council’s #1 fundraiser. This year’s Warrior Lax Splash takes place on Friday May 30 to Sunday June 1.

I just wrote a piece on the Riversplash Festival that i attended in Milwaukee that is also taking place this weekend. Another Festival that I have never attended but have read and heard about is the Rose Festival in Portland Oregon. I do plan on attending one of these days maybe next year if My wife can get off work.
The Festivities take place at Water front park, right in Portland, and this year marks its 101st anniversary. Here is a rundown of the Rose events:
* Starlight run is Saturday May 31, 2008 at 8pm.
* Starlight parade is downtown at 8:30 pm Saturday May 31, 2008.
* Junior parade is in the Hollywood district Wednesday June 4, 2008 at 1 pm.
* The Grand Floral parade is Saturday June 7, 2008 Memorial Coliseum to downtown Portland.

When I was in Milwaukee back in May of 2006 RiverSplash was by far the highlight of the trip. Not that the rest of the trip was terrible, but Riversplash was so completely awesome that I forgot everything else that happened for the 5 days I was visiting. RiverSplash is completely free, and features 10 different stages, 40+ bands and 30 participating restaurants. It takes place around and in the Pere Marquette Park.
The event started this afternoon at Noon, and runs all weekend May 30th – June 1st. Sunday is a special family day where they have all kinds of cool activities to keep the kids busy. This year Riversplash is expecting upwards of 175,000 people. The event began in Milwaukee in 1998 and has grown each of the 10 years, up until a point where people around the nation all have heard of it.

* RiverSculpture
* Fireworks
* Buskers
