Montgomery County Public Schools MCPS Closed

Category: Uncategorizedadmin @ 11:01 pm

This is a special post I am making before I call it a night. Had some emails from Readers in Montgomery County – MCPS – these last few minutes wanting to know if there is any word about the possible school closings.

Due to the heavy and dangerous storms which have caused widespread power outages in the Rockville, MD area, Montgomery County, and Prince George’s county schools will be closed Thursday. Pepco, the local electric company has crews who plan to work through the night tonight to restore power to thousands of residents and businesses after severe storms battered the area, causing massive traffic jams and downing hundreds of tree throughout the region. The following message has been left on the Montgomery County Public School website:

Montgomery County Public Schools – MCPS – will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, June 5, due to widespread power outages in school buildings caused by extensive storms in the region this afternoon and evening. All school and community activities in school buildings also are canceled for tomorrow. All administrative offices are open. Day care in school buildings with power will be open at the discretion of the provider. Graduation ceremonies scheduled for Blake, Whitman, and Wheaton High Schools at DAR Constitution Hall will take place on June 5 as scheduled. A decision on holding graduation ceremonies for Stephen Knolls school and RICA, scheduled for June 5 in their home schools, will be made tomorrow depending on the availability of power.
