It seems that gas prices are climbing faster than Indy cars running around a track. $4 gasoline is here, and peoples wallets are shrinking. How much higher will gas go? $5, almost certain, $6 quiet likely, $10, you never know. This increase in gasoline prices has created a new breed of human beings. The new breed….. The Hypermiler.

What is a Hypermiler?
A Hypermiler is a person who will do almost anything to save money on their gasoline costs. The term ‘hypermiler’ originated from hybrid vehicle driving clubs and Wayne Gerdes in particular. These people exceed the United States Environmental Protection Agency estimated fuel efficiency on their vehicles by modifying their driving habits, and following a strict set of guidelines they make. What are some of the practices Hypermilers employ?
#1 Drive slow, about 60 mph on the highway in cruise control
#2 Do not use the Air conditioning
#3 Coast into intersections
#4 Never tough the brake unless you have to
Hypermiling can save the average person 5-6% in gasoline costs. This can be a few bucks a week. Is it worth it?
