I heard this question this evening: What was the first company to have 1 million shareholders?
The first company to have 1 million shareholders is that of Bill Gates….. Yep, Microsoft. At least this is what I remember hearing back in the late 90′s. If I am wrong please correct me. Thats a pretty impressive stat by the way. Considering that some companies have only a few million shares outstanding, you need either a company with a huge market cap like Microsoft (msft) or one with a ton of outstanding shares and people interested in the business.

Sorry, but you’re wrong. It’s AT&T way back in 1951. It was the Final Jeopardy question on 6/3/2008. Bill Gates wasn’t even born yet!
