Like the post before this one I was looking at searches in Pop culture today. Abir Sabri is an extremely hot topic. We did a search on Abir, but couldn’t come up with too much info. Here is what I found:
Abir Sabri is an Egyptian Belly dancer who is world renown. She used to play major star roles in very racy Egyptian TV shows and movies. She was making a lot of money and was seen as a sex symbol for the region. Then in her prime, at the top of her game she moved on to Saudi Arabian tv, where her face was never seen again. Sabri took a pay raise to move over to the Saudi Arabian religious channels where she would dance without her face being displayed.
This is all just part of the reason Egyptians feel their culture is being taken over by Saudi Arabian ideas, often much more strict then their traditional ways of life. From what I can tell Abir Sabri is a driving force behind what many Egyptions feel is their culture headed in the wrong direction.
