Well, after a very tough and competitive National Spelling bee, Sameer Mishra comes away as the champ. As an eighth grader, Sameer was making his 4th and final attempt to walk away the winner. Despite the “numnah” vs “numnut” blunder which had the nation laughing their butts off, Mishra came out on top.
The winning word ended up being guerdon,” a noun, meaning a reward. By winning the Bee Sameer Mishra ended up fulfilling a promise he made to his bother years ago, when he told her that “I will take you to the bee one day”. The 8th grader resides in Indiana. Indiana has had two national champions: Betty Robinson of South Bend, who won in 1928, and David Scott Pilarski Tidmarsh, also of South Bend, who won in 2004. As the winner of the National contest Sameer will receive $35,000 in cash, a $2,500 savings bond, and other smaller prizes. That national attention and being on ESPN probably isnt so bad either.
