Just out is information that the Defense department of the United States is reviewing the main ammunition used by US soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, the M855 bullets. Soldiers have been complaining that the bullets, not all that large (only 5.66mm) are not sufficient enough to stop enemy fighters quick enough in close combat fighting.
George W. Casey Jr. says the Army must adapt as enemies do. He says the military will quickly evaluate its current ammunition and decide how to proceed. The M855 ammo was initially developed to penetrate Soviet steel helmets, so it is a bit outdated.
