This Just in to our New department. At 3:46 PM local time, or 11:46 Eastern time, An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter scale struck Reykjavik Iceland. This is a town in the southern portions of Iceland, and with a population of 119,000, it is the heart of Iceland’s economic and governmental activity. Initial reports of injuries have not shown us much. There are reports of numerous damages to buildings and roadways throughout the Iceland town.
Authorities advised residents in the area to leave their homes because of the possibility of aftershocks. The epicenter of the quake is relatively close to several larger Iceland cities. Below are rough estimates:
55 km (35 miles) ESE of REYKJAVIK, Iceland
115 km (70 miles) NW of Vik, Iceland
230 km (145 miles) SW of Akureyri, Iceland
260 km (160 miles) SSE of Isafjordur, Iceland
