We just got a report that a crane has collapsed in New York City, killing at least one person. The collapse occurred on the corner of 91st Street and First Avenue, a heavily residential area on the city’s Upper East Side. Currently there are reports of extensive damage to the construction site as well as surrounding apartment buildings. People have been seen being pulling from the wreckage, thus injuries are likely as well as the one death.
A Construction worker on the scene said: The turntable had snapped, the crane operator was recently married, and does not seem to be at fault here. The worker did not want to be on camera but says there was a great deal of safety inspectors on the scene during the ‘jumping’ of the crane, which is when the crane is erected and put together.
“I’m not directly on the scene, but I can confirm that we have lost a life of yet another building collapse in the borough of Manhattan, and it is an absolute tragedy,” Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer stated in an interview a few moments ago.

Maybe this will get NYer’s to finally understand how important it is to remove the corrupt unions from the construction process in NYC so building can continue safely in NYC.
