I’m a big time lacrosse fan, and pretty much follow the sport religiously when I can. Anyway I just thought I’d write a little piece about the Lax Splash recreation lacrosse tournament.
Here is a tidbit of information about Lax Splash: It was created in 1999 as an end of year celebration for local and, not so local, recreation lacrosse teams. Over the years it has hosted more than 50,000 players and has served as Carroll Manor Recreation Council’s #1 fundraiser. This year’s Warrior Lax Splash takes place on Friday May 30 to Sunday June 1.
As some of you may know, my first passion is writing, but my second passion is investing. I have an economics degree and have been interesting in all sorts of investments since I was quite young. Now at 30 years of age, some people tell me I have an Investing sense. Not because I always invest in the best, or can predict fluctuations better then most experts, but simply because I have a sense for when things will turn around.
I have dabbled in Stocks, real estate, bonds, mutual funds, domain names, metal bullion, etc. I have always seem to have an Investing sense when it comes time to sell and leave a particular market. What is this sense? What’s my secret? It’s simply. I stray from the herd when I decide to exit an investment. If everyone seems to be blinded with optimism, and investing if a particular area, whether it’s domain names, a stock, etc, then run the other way. Sell, as fast as you can.
This won’t always work, you gotta put your own sense to work, and determine if the optimism is even slightly warranted. Unless the optimism is completely warranted, get out. Thats my #1 rule.
Had a ton of emails today from people wondering about the Ausman Petition, however they all spelled it “Osman Petition”. It literally took me an hour to figure out what the heck they were all talking about. There is nor Osman!
Anyway onto the Ausman Petition. Last week, Democratic National Committee member Jon Ausman filed a petition with the party’s rules and bylaws committee pointing out that the charter of the Democratic National Committee uses the verb “shall” when describing the relationship between super delegates and the convention, as in super delegates “shall” be seated. The argument, basically, is that the charter supercedes any penalty imposed by the RBC. The counter arguement is that the verb “shall” is later qualified. The 28 members of the DNC’s Rules and Bylaws committee may well decide that the challenge has validity and may well decide to seat the super delegates from Florida, and then, should there be a similar petition from Michigan, the super delegates from Michigan.
If you are an Obama support then you are likely against the Ausman petition since Obama did not even campaign in Florida or Michigan after he found out that the states primaries would not count towards the nomination. The next few days should be interesting as this matter is discussed further. Either way though, Obama has a commanding lead among democrats.
On the eve of the official first day of the Atlantic Tropical season, we have our first named storm. June 1st marks the start of the 6 month long Tropical season, but Arthur just couldn’t wait another day. In what experts claim will be an above average storm season, we are already off to a very fast start. Below is the map of the National Hurricane Centers predicted path of Arthur.
At 2 p.m., Tropical Storm Arthur was located about 50 miles north-northwest of Belize City and about 150 miles southwest of Cozumel, Mexico. It was moving north-northwest at 8 mph. It had maximum sustained winds near 40 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. The center of circulation should move over the Yucatan today. Arthur was expected to weaken as it moves over land. Rainfall of five to 10 inches is expected, and isolated areas could see up to 15 inches. Flooding will be the main concern with this storm, and it is not expected to directly impact the United State.
It is very rarely that you hear of bank failures, even this year when it seems the mortgage crisis cheerleaders want Americans to panic and think that every bank is risking failure. Having said this, we just got word this morning that the First Integrity Bank from Staples, Minn. was shut down by federal regulators working for the Federal reserve of the United States of America. If you have money in First Integrity Bank, don’t panic, it is safe. The bank was FDIC insured meaning that every account is insured for $100,000, not to mention the company didn’t really lose the money anyway. Federal regulators simply felt that unsafe practices had weakened its financial condition.
First Integrity Bank was the fourth bank failure this year of an FDIC-insured bank There were two small Missouri institutions, Hume Bank and Douglass National Bank, and ANB Financial National Association of Bentonville, Ark., which had about $2.1 billion in assets, which also failed. The Feds said that they do expect more bank failures over the coming months and have hired additional employees to manage the takeovers. The FDIC estimated the action of this takover and buyout will cost the deposit insurance fund only around $2.3 million.
When I first looked at this trailer, shown below for the New game Resident Evil 5, I thought I was watching a movie trailer, then realized that Resident Evil only had 2 movies in the past, not 4 . Anyway below if the trailer. The game looks absolutely incredible. Resident Evil 5 was first announced back on July 20, 2005, but won’t be released until the beginning of 2009, Probably in February according to our sources. Remember Resident Evil 5′s E3 trailer ignited controversy with its depiction of a White protagonist killing hostile African villagers. African-American Newsweek editor N’Gai Croal, spoke againts the game and it’s developers with the following quote: “There was a lot of imagery in that trailer that dovetailed with classic racist imagery.” He nonetheless acknowledges that only the preview has been released.
