Most of us know who Bill Maher is. If we didn’t know who he was prior to 4/11/08, we certainly do now after his ramblings about the Pope caused a ton of controversy. Maher stated:
“He (the Pope) used to be a Nazi and he wears funny hats. Thats right, the Pope is coming to America this week, and ladies – he’s single!”
Because of this, some catholic groups have set up a website firebillmaher.com. On the site, they ask everyone to sign a petition to have HBO fire Bill Maher. We here at ProfilesBlog.com would like everyone to sign the petition here (by leaving a comment below) to do the exact opposite. This is America folks! The home of the free and the brave! Bill Maher should be allowed to state what he wants.
Fact is the Pope does have Nazi ties so his comment was not pure slander. The Pope was part of the “Hitler Youth” as a youngster. If you live in America you should be able to state your opinion regardless. Here’s to Bill Maher for being brave enough to state his mind, and not afraid to offend the biggest religious group in America.
Sign the Petition Below in support for Bill Maher!

I Think Maher’s comment is funny!!! The catholics need to lighten up!!! Pope is NOT God, he is a man and they need to read a little more about his past. Maher is a comedian, he makes fun of people that is what he does. Lighten up people!!!

Check the front page of my site for the Bill Maher article. This is ridiculous. Dugg, commented, shouted.
April 21st, 2008 3:34 pm
You have got to be kidding me. This show is the only reason I pay the over inflated fee for HBO!
April 21st, 2008 3:57 pm
UnFreakingBelievable. Will forward
April 21st, 2008 4:54 pm
1. Are you serious?
2. He has been fired before and he bounced back. As long as there are thousands of people who enjoys his shows, there will be other media that would welcome him.
3. Freedom of Speech
4. Get a sense of humor, you will need it to stay sane in the near future

FIRE BILL NOW. He is a boring little scumbag.
April 21st, 2008 5:33 pm
There is no place for such censorship in an open society.
April 21st, 2008 9:41 pm
Bill Maher is a classless human being….he should be fired (AGAIN!!) for his outlandish comments.
April 22nd, 2008 2:19 am
Maher saying things like that is the entire point of watching: On of a few smart counters to the right wing garbage that drones daily. From Fox News to this “Expelled” documentary.
Keep him HBO. Earn your reputation.
April 22nd, 2008 2:53 am
Bill Mahers show is the only real news show out there today. If he goes, so shall the right guaranteed by the constitution, even though that’s been dwindling enough as it is.
April 22nd, 2008 2:58 am
save this man’s job
end censorship
April 22nd, 2008 9:57 am
You’ve got to be kidding me. Fire him for what??? For saying something about the Pope – well, last I checked, the Pope is NOT God. If we can talk about our brillant President, why is the Pope off limits. Give it a rest – fire him on what grounds? You go Bill, love your show.

I have canceled my HBO,i hate the double standards
you liberals get away with if this was a Bill O’rielly saying this it would have been front page news in every newspaper..Bill Maher has a face for radio not TV…
April 24th, 2008 10:12 am
Bill Maher should be castrated. FIRE HIM. For a gay guy, he has no sense of style.
April 24th, 2008 7:22 pm
Those of you who think what Bill Maher said about the Pope was o.k., probably thought his halloween costume of Steve Irwin right after his death was a hoot. And you are probably the same ones who wanted Don Imus fired for his comment about nappie-headed hoe’s. You’re all twisted. I don’t have horse in the religion race and am appalled by Maher. Oh yeah, only the government is forbidden from violating free speech. A privately owned business can keep an employee from saying unpopular things in public all they want.
April 25th, 2008 12:15 am
I hate uptight people like that.
(I’m not saying Catholics altogether are uptight.)
Everyone can say anything they want about anyone in America.
It’s why millions of people move here from other countries.
Firing Maher for saying that is a violation of his constitutional rights as a citizen of America.
April 25th, 2008 6:02 pm
well, I am not Catholic so whatever Bill says about the pope is AOK with me. I find him occasionally offensive, but he does have a right to be so and I support that.
April 26th, 2008 3:56 am
Didn’t Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI) get called “Ratzi the Nazi”? It wasn’t original with Maher. People call the Pope “Eggs,” and he is never above criticism. Neither is the Church for their unrealistic and uncompassionate stances on child abuse, sex education, stem cell research, birth control, a married clergy, women priests and other issues.
Bill Maher is a jewel of a free thinker, provokes thought and discussion and has interesting guests. To fire or censor him is lunacy.
April 29th, 2008 11:08 pm
It’s freaking hilarious but I do have to agree with the double standard crap. If it was anyone on the right saying anything about Islam they would have been fired so fast.
Bill Maher is smart and funny but he can also be a pain in the ass.
May 6th, 2008 12:51 pm
I AGREE WITH HIS STATEMENT ABOUT NOTHING SEVERE BEING DONE TO THE PRIESTS FOR CHILD ABUSE, THERE SHOULD BE THE SAME PUNISHMENT AS IF IT WAS ANYONE ELSE DOING IT,ITS TERRIBLE
May 12th, 2008 10:33 pm
Wow- the pro-hatred side is really NOT moving along here so well. I wonder if Maher lovers are growing a conscience or simply can’t find any reasons that spewing hatred, bigotry and sarcastic elitist and liberal nonsense is a good thing for society. Unless of course you’re Hillary Clinton or Obama!
FIRE BILL MAHER NOW.
May 20th, 2008 7:14 pm
It strikes me funny that Catholics believe that the free thinking Bill Maher is an anti-Christian, Catholic-bashing bigot for his comments concerning the Pope, yet they do not speak out against Pastor John Hagee’s calling Catholics the “whore church.”
This is typical hypocrisy regularly practiced by many Believers. Believers need to realize that rational non-believers do not have to respect your religion, we only have to tolerate it.
One should be reminded of a famous quote from Voltaire that says “I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” Bill Maher has the right to say these things whether you respect it or not, you just have to tolerate it.
Regards,
Jackie

Love Bill Maher. He says it like it is.
May 21st, 2008 4:43 pm
Bill Maher is one of the finest and most brilliant thinkers on television today, and deserves the best consideration from HBO….do NOT let the Catholic dictatorial position deceive anyone….I am an EX Catholic and realize that their medieval attitudes still permeate the Clergy and Right-Wing nut cases out there….Do NOT cave into their power craze for Witch Burning and King Making (and destroying anything and everything that disagrees with them.—-or at least trying) Don’t cave into censorship!
May 30th, 2008 10:26 pm
I really like Bill Maher and his HBO show and the comedy specials are great.
Saw his show May 29, 2008 in DC. Was somewhat disappointed as the show started late and we could not hear him very well. Mostly recycled material from his comedy specials

I was so devestated when Bush got reelected in 2004. I took it so badly because I knew what was going to happen. I knew he was going to destroy this country. My fiance said I started to look like Bill Maher. Depressed and Frustated at the continued stupidity of so many in this country. The religious right put Bush in office and in turn screwing the whole world over. Bill Maher honestly cares about this country. He should have never appologized.
June 14th, 2008 2:56 pm
We all must have and keep the freedom to joke and express our thoughts, that includes Bill Maher!
June 20th, 2008 9:13 pm
I like the way Bill Maher speaks his mind and says the truth. “You shall know the truth and it shall set u free”. We need Bill Maher, he helps us to hear the truth and deal with it. That makes u free.
June 21st, 2008 10:10 am
Bill Maher is a gentleman and a scholar. HBO is nothing without him. If not for the on demand feature giving me the ability to get my weekly dose of rationalism I may have already left this country. In this country we have something called the constitution and Im calling for a Bill Maher ammendment, and that is that anything he sais is fair game.
June 21st, 2008 10:05 pm
I second that. LOL
June 21st, 2008 10:06 pm
We NEED a massive secular movement to take immediate action against these bullshit religious watchdog groups. My patience with these tools is completely exhausted. We don’t need Catholics trying to hijack reality on HBO either. We get enough of that shit anywhere else. You people can stick to NBC and fucking Telemundo. Fuck Catholics and their stupid fucking religion.
June 27th, 2008 9:59 pm
I saw Bill Maher’s comments online a couple of months ago and thought nothing of it.I find it absolutely incredible the storm caused by his abrasive yes but all the same perceptive remarks concerning Catholicism. It was a wholly reasonable and critical assessment of a flawed institution and its many hidden abuse scandals .Once again a lawless protection envelopes the ”infallible ” leader of such an out-of-bounds organization , despite his direct involvement in burying such secrets and men of biting wit and satire like Mr.Maher are shot down for saying what is on a lot of people’s minds.Take Mr.Maher of the air and you will be missing one of your most valuable and enlightened comedians in US broadcasting – and while I’m on that note , George Carlin R.I.P.
June 28th, 2008 8:27 pm
Are you kidding me – this is what the Catholics are focusing on – fire Bill Maher. Maybe they should address his statement about the American CEO that had his employees molesting children – just like the Pope did. They just happen to be the largest and oldest Cult and no different then the others. They just go to Church on Sunday to get forgiven of their sins. What a joke. If you do not like Bill Maher do not watch it, just like I do not have to go to your cult meetings on Sunday. Protect the freedom of speech and we can all get along. Go Bill Go.
March 4th, 2009 6:32 pm
Bill Maher is the Jesus for the 21st century. He can lead us out of the darkness (and bullshit) that is religion. Free speech and so on and so forth. Those who want him fired should just go play in traffic, we won’t miss them.
May 15th, 2009 3:42 pm
Yes indeed Bill Maher should be fired! He is abusing freedom of speech.Bill is really a pathetic clown! How hilarious to read Paul’s comment that Bill is “Jesus for the 21st century”!! Jesus never used hate language as Bill does! Grow up Bill!Repent and save your soul.
June 16th, 2009 10:02 pm
Kill Bill Maher must die….. God lol
June 29th, 2009 12:48 am
Bill Maher isn’t a non believer, he has stated that anyone who believes in religion is an idiot/ mis-informed.
I fully agree with freedom of speech. But every week, Bill refuses to see any view that doesn’t say Republicians or Conserative view points.
